After what felt like the longest episode hiatus in PFB history, we are back and back in a big way with a new movie review. The reason this occasion is so momentous: it is the first time in PFB history that we are reviewing a sequel in a film franchise where we have already reviewed the first film on the podcast. This week’s film is Sonic the Hedgehog 2! Way back in February of 2020, before we knew what horrors awaited us, we reviewed Sonic the Hedgehog and we did not think kindly of that film. Could Sonic the Hedgehog 2 do the impossible and right the ship in the sequel? You’ll just have to listen to find out!

We are now 24 hours removed from the most talked about Oscars ever. Whether or not the 94^th Annual Academy Awards was a good or bad show is certainly up for debate, but one thing is indisputable: they were entertaining. In this edition of What’s Poppin’, we will of course breakdown all our thoughts on the Will Smith Chris Rock slapping incident. Oh, and they Academy also handed out some little statues last night, so we’ll talk about who got them (and who didn’t). The Oscars is the biggest night in film, and we’ve got a full recap and heaps of thoughts!

The Adam Project Review

Netflix’s hottest release so far in 2022 is, without question, The Adam Project. The film, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Walker Scobell, Zoe Saldana, Jennifer Garner, and Mark Ruffalo, has held the top spot in Netflix’s Top 10 Movies since its release nearly two weeks ago and amassed over 92 million hours of streaming in its first weekend on the platform. The Adam Project is an original, time-hopping sci-fi flick that aims to make its audience laugh, swoon, and cry. In our review, we discuss whether or not it achieves that goal and if it lives up to the hype.

Since the beginning of 2022, the only things to consistently appear in the movie/tv news cycle week after week have been Disney+ Series and Oscars Controversies. In that way, this week is not unlike many of the most recent weeks because we got a new MCU series trailer (Ms. Marvel) as well as another big Oscars controversy as Rachel Zegler announces she has not been invited to the show. Not only that but we are officially less than a week from Oscar Sunday so we will be taking this time to give some final thoughts and predictions headed into the Oscars. We've got all that and more in this week’s episode of Popcorn for Breakfast!

Academy Award winner Domee Shi directs Pixar’s latest film, Turning Red. The film is a coming of age story about a 13 year old girl, Meilin Lee, growing up in Toronto in 2002. She is struggling to balance her school and home life when she suddenly acquires the ability to turn into a giant red panda when she gets too excited. This film released on Disney+ last week and, in this episode, we give our full review!

At the beginning of 2022, both of us declared The Batman our “Most Anticipated Film of the Year.” Fast forward two months later and we are already here, in March, reviewing our most anticipated film of the year. The Batman has seemingly been in the making for a decade and there are plenty of storylines surrounding this film: outrage around the Robert Pattinson casting, comparisons to the Nolan trilogy, living outside of the DCEU, etc. So, we could not wait to sink our teeth into this one. Plus, beyond our review of The Batman, we also had to discuss what is next for the franchise and dig into some of the juicy rumors coming out of The Batman.

The video game adaptation genre is perhaps the fastest-growing genre in the entire film industry. With each year, more and more world-renowned gaming franchises find their way to the silver screen. This week, Uncharted joined in on the fun and had an impressive opening weekend box office debut. The PFB guys checked it out and have shared their thoughts on whether this latest video game adaptation is the first significant entry to hit the mark from a filmmaking standpoint. This genre has historically been marred with low-quality movies that fail to meet the level of fun and immersion captured in the games from which they were adapted.
