Coming off of a historically bad box office weekend, there is a ton of exciting new movies and shows to look forward to this Labor Day weekend. In this episode, we'll preview all of the great content headed our way including (of course) Prime Video's The Rings of Power. Additionally, major moves appear to be coming to both major Superhero studios as DC Films is about ready to hand the reigns over to Walter Hamada's successor and Marvel appears to have found a director for Fantastic Four. And that's not even half of what we have to discuss in this week's What's Poppin'!

Day Shift Review & Vampire, Human, or Lizard Person Game
Friday Aug 26, 2022
Friday Aug 26, 2022
I’m not sure if everyone has noticed, but the term “Netflix Movie” is becoming increasingly more common these days. Not only that, but 9 out of 10 times when this term is used, it is used in a derogatory way, like “Hallmark Movie.” Something to keep in mind as, in this week’s episode, we embark on our Day Shift review (it’s a Netflix movie). On paper, this movie has everything you could ask for in an action comedy: vampires, violence, and Jamie Foxx. But as to whether this movie is the start of a new franchise or another tally in the “Netflix movie” column, you’ll have to decide that for yourself. Take a listen to our thoughts and reach out to let us know what you think!

Bullet Train Review
Friday Aug 12, 2022
Friday Aug 12, 2022
ALL ABOARD! Brad Pitt headlines an A-List cast in Director David Leitch’s (Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde, John Wick) latest feature film, Bullet Train. Like David Leitch’s prior films, this one features dazzling high-speed action sequences and laughs galore but does it have a compelling enough story to make this ride worth the cost of a ticket? In our Bullet Train Review, we discuss all of the twists and turns and whether or not Bullet Train has punched its way through the increasingly-crowded action comedy landscape to make a memorable impact.

NOPE Review
Friday Aug 05, 2022
Friday Aug 05, 2022
Visionary writer and director Jordan Peele is back with his 3rd feature film, NOPE, which has a little bit of everything and is nothing you could’ve ever expected it to be. Starring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, and Brandon Perea, NOPE follows Hollywood horse trainers, the Haywoods, as they deal with an extraterrestrial phenomenon on their family’s ranch. Like its predecessors in Jordan Peele’s filmography, Get Out and Us, this film has a deadly left hook and a sharp social commentary. But is that enough to earn a high score from the PFB boys, listen in to hear Cam and Kirk’s thoughts and be sure to share your thoughts on Discord or social!

The Gray Man Review
Thursday Jul 28, 2022
Thursday Jul 28, 2022
It’s got the star power. It’s got the budget. It’s got the bona fide blockbuster director duo. Does all of that give Netflix’s The Gray Man the punch it needs to become the streamer’s first major original action franchise? In this episode, Cam and Kirk breakdown Netflix’s latest film, The Gray Man, starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana De Armas (among others) and directed by the Russo Brothers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame). Based on a best-selling novel of the same name, this film clearly takes inspiration from James Bond, Mission Impossible, John Wick and others on its way to try to cement itself as an establish action franchise, but does it succeed? Take a listen to hear the PFB boys’ thoughts.

Marvel has a real knack for setting various con stages and convention centers on fire these days (figuratively speaking). And they were back to their old tricks this weekend at San Diego ComicCon 2022. Marvel rolled out release schedules (some full, some partial) for the remainder of Phases 4, 5, and 6 including many expected reveals and some unexpected! In this episode, we'll break down and react to all of the details coming out of Marvel's Hall H panel and what to expect next from the biggest film franchise ever.

Episode 200! State of the MCU Discussion
Tuesday Jul 19, 2022
Tuesday Jul 19, 2022
After 3 years of PFB, we've finally reached it... EPISODE 200. And if you've listened to any one of those podcasts or streamed any lives over the last 3 years, there's about a 99% chance that you have heard us talk about one topic more than any other: the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After all, our very first review was Spider-Man: Far From Home and our most recent review was Thor: Love and Thunder. Between those two we have taken the time to watch and review every MCU Phase 4 film and dissect each of them to attempt to put the never-ending puzzle together. So, for our 200th episode, we want to examine the MCU ahead of this weekend's San Diego ComicCon Mega Panel and determine whether we think it is on the right track or headed for a super-sized downfall.

Spoiler Free Thor Love and Thunder Review
Friday Jul 08, 2022
Friday Jul 08, 2022
Thor Love and Thunder marks the first time an MCU character has reached four solo films. Thor is the only remaining member of the original Avengers to still be creating solo films so, in a way, this is uncharted territory for Marvel Studios. Picking up after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Thor Love and Thunder sets out to answer the question “what’s left for Thor to do?” With his story arc seemingly fulfilled at the end of endgame and most people expecting Chris Hemsworth to walk away from the role, this movie certainly has a decent amount of storytelling to do. With Taika Waititi back at the helm after the success of Thor: Ragnarok, Natalie Portman returning to reprise her role as Dr. Jane Foster (and then some), and the massive addition of Academy Award Winner Christian Bale as Gorr, Thor Love and Thunder is no doubt reaching for the stars, but did the movie succeed? In our spoiler free Thor Love and Thunder review, we answer that question and many others after seeing Marvel’s latest blockbuster.
