After weeks of award season talk followed by last week’s big DCU discussion, we are finally back to discussing good, old-fashioned movie and tv news. It’s a bit refreshing if we are being honest. This week featured a potpourri of various stories from the strange, like AMC’s plan to flex ticket pricing based on seating location, to the magnificent, like Viola Davis’ newly-minted EGOT status. We’ll also discuss the Academy’s investigation into the Best Actress Oscar Nominees and La La Land heading from screen to stage. It is nominated for 6 Academy Awards including Directing, Film Editing, Cinematography, Original Screenplay, Best Picture, and Best Actress in a Leading Role for Cate Blanchett’s performance which has her positioned as the presumptive favorite. In our Tar Review, we discuss the every aspect of this film and give our opinion on if it is one of the best films of 2022 and if it deserved one of the 10 best picture nominee spots.

A new day is dawning at DC! At long last, we are now privy to (at least part of) James Gunn’s master plan at the newly-minted DC Studios. In this episode, we discuss all of the new ground rules James Gunn and Peter Safran have put in place for their storytelling universe, the DCU, as well as all of the new projects included in Chapter 1 of the DCU titled Gods and Monsters. This lineup includes Creature Commandos, Waller, Superman: Legacy, Lanterns, The Authority, Paradise Lost, Batman: The Brave and The Bold, Booster Gold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Swamp Thing and we are providing thoughts and reactions for all of them! So far in 2023, only one movie has captured the attention of casual and avid film fans alike, M3GAN. When a movie like this comes around (read: a horror movie with an obvious gimmick) it always begs the question: is this just another campy “B” movie that’s fun but not much else? OR is this a movie masterpiece in “B” movie clothing? In our M3GAN review, we tackle that exact question as we break down whether this film is so dumb it’s smart or just plain dumb. Plus, it’s a horror movie so we rate it on our Pee-Your-Pants-Meter from 1 to “pee your pants.” Finally, everyone’s favorite co-host returns with a M3GAN-themed game!

Roll out the red carpet! Or honestly probably any old carpet will do because it is just the Golden Globes. Hollywood’s second-rate movie and TV awards show is here, the 80^th Golden Globe Awards. The awards are back on national television this year which means we are forced to pay attention to them. So in this episode, rather than What’s Poppin’, we’re giving you a full Golden Globes Preview complete with reactions to each of the major movie award categories as well as picks on who we think should win in most of the categories. Just two days before we ushered in 2023, we got a late Christmas present from our friends at Netflix: a movie called White Noise, from writer-director Noah Baumbach. White Noise is based on an 80s novel written by Don DeLillo that for decades has been considered by many to be “unfilmable.” In our White Noise Review, we’ll discuss the cast, which includes Adam Driver, Greta Gerwig, Don Cheadle, and more, the production, the narrative, and the themes before deciding if Noah Baumbach has done the impossible, filmed the unfilmable.
